How to protect yourself from COVID 19?
For the last several weeks we have been hearing about a new virus, which comes from the Corona family and it has been named as COVID 19. There is not much information available, and so far no vaccine has been developed, nor is there any known medicine for treating this new-virus. However, as per the available information, it has been found that this virus, unlike other viruses, can spread very fast and that it is quite resistant to different conditions. It can survive in cold climates of China and Europe, and also in hot climates of Singapore and Thailand. Under the circumstances, prevention is our best resort. For that, we have to ensure that our physiology is kept secure enough to guard itself against infection, and if one does get infected, they should be able to recover with the least damage.
In the above context, Maharishi Ayurveda brings to you ayurvedic solutions to protect yourself from COVID 19. But before that, it would certainly help to understand the Ayurvedic definition of health, which is "the balance at every aspect of physiology and bliss at the level of the senses mind and Atman (the soul)". This balance and bliss are critical factors for perfect health. Once this level of health is achieved our immune system, self-repair mechanism and communication system all start functioning in complete coordination with the central nervous system at an optimum level. Thus, this is the fundamental key for the prevention of ailments and for retaining good health. Therefore, Maharishi Ayurveda believes in maintaining and guarding your mental bliss and physical balance with utmost care and sincerity to avoid mental stress, physical imbalances and to maintain immunity.
Here are some of the best ways to protect yourself from COVID 19
1) Do Transcendental Meditation
Maharishi Ayurveda recommends the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation, which, as supported by more than seven hundred scientific research studies, is highly effective in reducing mental stresses, improving health and quality of life of individuals as well as society as a whole.
Along with TM, Maharishi Ayurveda advises the practice of Yoga Asanas and Pranayama, and recommends:
- To follow the routine of early to bed and early to rise.
- To follow proper daily and seasonal routines while avoiding unnecessary stresses and strains to physiology.
2) A healthy diet is crucial
Ayurveda gives high importance to your intake of proper food by advising that your ideal diet should be according to your body type to ensure that you develop the habit of eating what is right for you. Further, for deriving full benefit from one's diet, it is also essential to give respect to the following aspects:
- Take food in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in a relaxed sitting position.
- While taking food, do not indulge in any argument.
- After taking food, sit relaxed for a few minutes before starting any activity.
- Food should be taken after the previous meal has been digested
- One should avoid munching titbits in between meals. This is because titbits will disturb proper digestion of food, which will result in the production of Ama which forms toxins in the body and disrupts balanced production of body tissues and hamper the creation of the most excellent gist of balanced digestion and metabolization, called Ojas.
- Time of taking food is also significant in Ayurveda;
- Your breakfast should be at around 8:00 a.m. and light.
- Lunch, as the major meal of the day, can be taken around noon.
- At around 5:00 p.m., one may take light snacks.
- Dinner should be before 8:00 p.m.
3) Make use of Rasayana Products
Due to the present state of affairs in the cities and towns, there are several factors, which contribute to excessive physiological and mental stresses and cause unnecessary load on our immune system and self-repair mechanism. To counter such situations, Ayurvedic wisdom has already provided unique and fail-proof knowledge in the masterly chapter of RASAYANA.
Rasayana Products are those products which increase or decrease some aspect of the physiology-system to create balance. It can work in a multidirectional manner to help the physiology in regaining balance and maintaining it.
The Maharishi Amrit Kalash range includes Amrit Nectar Paste or Amrit Nectar Tablets and Amrit Ambrosia that come under the highest category of Rasayanas. There have been several rigorous clinical and preclinical trials on the combination of Nectar and Ambrosia did at prestigious medical institutions in India, USA, Germany, France, Japan and others, wherein the results have been highly recommendatory and encouraging for the whole physiology. Digestone is another very important Rasayana helpful in establishing balance in the digestive system. Bio Immune, Aller Tab, Protection Plus-Respiratory System, Chyawanprash, MA 630 are some of the herbal combinations based on ancient ayurvedic knowledge, designed to bring balance in specific areas of physiology. In addition to the above, there are some certified organic single herbs like Tulsi, Neem, Ashwagandha, which are known for their balancing effects on specific areas of physiology.
4) Take Nasya treatment:
COVID 19 has been identified to be the mother of various health problems and ailments, including viral infections. Allergens and viruses can have a higher possibility of entry in the human body through the nasal breath-inhaling cycle. Hence, Maharishi Ayurveda recommends effective 'NASAYA TREATMENTS' for cleansing and soothing the respiratory tract.
NASYA is of two types, one that is done under the supervision of the expert, called MARSHA NASYA, and the other, which can be done at home, called PRATIMARSHA NASYA. It is necessary to mention that whereas the correctness of Nasya procedure plays an important role, the effectiveness of the procedure depends on the qualitative attributes of the herbalized oils. One of the most important in this case is Maharishi Ayurveda's Anu Thailam, of which when 2-drops are applied in the morning in both the nostrils, massaged and inhaled.
At Maharishi Ayurveda, preparation of Nasya oils is done as per its well-researched SOP. It is a very elaborate and exacting procedure, which takes about 14 days or more of processing, so that the oil, which goes into the nasal cavity is effective and completely free from any impurities.
5) DHOOPANA AND AROMA
Ayurveda prescribes a very safe and healthy mode of disinfection of the closed atmosphere of a room or a big hall. This fumigation process is called DHOOPANA. A mixture of several herbs containing volatile and antimicrobial properties are mixed, and sticks are made like instant sticks, which when burnt, produce very pleasant aromatic fumes having the capability to reduce the microbial load from the air around.
In the end, we are aware that no antibiotics or any other medicine work on COVID 19. It is the defence mechanism and self-repair mechanism of our physiology alone that can handle the viruses. But it takes time for our physiology to recognise the properties of the virus that it is encountering before it can offer a proper response. Therefore, people with healthy immune systems survive by getting rid of the germs, but some unfortunately with compromised immunity may not have that much time.
Hence, to be able to handle any stress one may face, it is vital to strengthen our physiology with the holistic multimodality approach of Maharishi Ayurveda briefly mentioned in this blog.
